My name is Siya Sharma. I’m a 16 year old student from Santa Clara, CA.
Oxijn started with a simple idea, an idea centered around the very basic things we all need for survival. The basic necessities of life that every individual deserves access to, including food, clean water, shelter, basic healthcare, and education. Oxijn, is essentially a platform that could be used to share information and insights on the new developments in these areas. Most importantly, the disparity that exists within our country, and around the world when it comes to basic access (or lack thereof) to these necessities.
It all started in the fall of 2014, when I came across some articles around global poverty, economic decline, and the impact it had on the lives of the people. I had my thoughts & ideas, but no place to put them. I started putting together my insights and observations around these topics, and created Oxijn. At first it was just a personal project, and among other articles, I wrote a piece about the ‘Small Aspirations’ that some desire, but have yet to fulfill. From there on the journey has continued. As I move forward, I’ll continue to share my insights through Oxijn and perhaps have others use this platform to share their perspectives as well.
The term Oxijn refers to ‘Oxygen,’ the fundamental necessity, the basic element of life. It describes my purpose quite clearly, being the singular term used to describe all the necessities of life.
