Shelter

SHELTER provides an identity and a sense of belonging. Even as economies continue to grow, millions of people around the world are without a home. In United States itself, by some estimates, there are nearly 650, 000 people experiencing homelessness. One in fifty children becomes homeless each year, and this rate is increasing every day. Another startling fact is that a large percentage of these homeless people are veterans (10%).

Federal, state and local governments are trying to do what they can to support the families living in poverty, but government funds can only provide adequate support to one out of four people facing homelessness. Which means that the remaining have to resort to other means, which sometimes can lead to other problems such as crime and lawlessness. Lack of government funds, not enough homeless shelters, growing income gap due to economy are just some of the reasons why homelessness is on the rise in the United States, and unless we make a fundamental change, this problem will continue to exist.

As I move forward with this journey, I intend to share more insights on this topic.
